personally i say forget about it. going into regedit is a bad idea simply because something about windows systems gets confused but not really at the same time, for example, the activation screen will in fact say "windows is already activated" however the clock keeps ticking and everyday or every so often a pop-up will tell you "windows must must be activated, in order to continue using the product". And please believe me windows will put you in a loop you can't get out of unless you download an operating system, in .iso format. I suggest going to extratorrent.com. You can find xp sp3 there, you will get the proper keys for installaton with the file. It works. I am using mine right now. Or yo can try to find an xp key generator, but they are hard to get. but goodluck.

Now that I got this jewel working, will a windows upgrade work on the same computer?
My computer crashed, I have original disc but key does not work (stickers on computer), called Microsoft, referred to Gateway, and Gateway said my computer is out of warranty. Thanks!

I son bought me a copy of Windows upgrade but not sure it will load with this modified XP. Help

Ok, so editting your REGEDIT OOBETIME works for the 30 days;
A work around is known "after" the 30 days;

When you come to the log in screen, it says "Windows must be activated" blah blah, click "yes" and then your desktop background with the activation dialog box will appear.
Press "Windows" + "U" (Start button and the "U" letter on your keyboard).

This will bring up the Microsoft Navigator. Now you will either get one or two dialog boxes. If you get two, the top dialog box will have an internet link and will open your browser. If you only get one, click on the COMPUTER WITH SPEACH BUBBLE in the top left corner of the dialog box, this will then open the second dialog box which has the link.

Being able to open your internet browser is very helpful, from this we can do a lot. Now the next section (as far as I know) only works with Firefox, I've never user Internet Explorer so I wouldn't know if it has a "Downloads" window where you can see all your downloads. If you have Firefox installed (during your 30 day trial/activation period) then you can access almost everything on your computer.

In your web address bar type in "C:\" and press enter. Your web browser will then display all your files on your computers "C:\" drive.

Navigate to any program or document that you want to open. Clicking the file (if it is a .exe or similar extension) will "download" the file. Going to "Tools -> Downloads" will then open the download dialog box, double clicking the (completed) download will then execute the file as normal. If the file you are trying to access is a document file, or a .txt document, it will open it in the browser and will be unedittable.

My suggestion for opening and editting files like this is to download the .exe file (If it's notepad you want, so you can create .bat files or whatever) go to "C:\Windows\System32" and "downloading" "notepad.exe". Opening the notepad from the download dialog box, you can then go to "File -> Open" and you should then have a file browser that you might recognise. Alternitavely, you can download and open "cmd.exe" where you have a command prompt, if you know how to use cmd I'm sure you don't need me to (poorly) explain some of the functions. For anyone who want's to change their registry information though, open the cmd.exe and type in "redegit" and hit enter.

So this is not a permanent fix, and you do not have your Start Menu bar, but it makes your computer useable, even if its just for the short term. It is a pain having to do everything the long way but (as far as I know) it is currently the only way...

I hope this helps some of you access your computer and files and I do hope that Sunil Jain can find a solution. I'm doing what I can but I'm no expert so my knowledge of editting the registry and bypassing Microshaft is limited :S sorry.
