Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi – At a Glance

2dtog2q Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi At a Glance

Synopsis:

The film is a very earthy romantic film about Shah Rukh Khan who is married to Anushka Sharma and there is a huge age difference between them and they are not what one would call a perfect couple. They are merely stretching their marriage with no real romance in between them. They are two very different people. There’s reality dance show called Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi – which is the main backdrop of the movie. The show is on the lines of popular television show, Nach Baliye.

Aparently Anushka wants to take part in the dance competition but she can’t because her husband is old and not hip and happening she fears that if she dances with him, she will lose the show and become the laughing stock among all her friends, who are taking part in the same.

Shah Rukh Khan overhears his wife’s problem and decides to go in for a makeover. He then watches some movies and changes his image completely and comes back to the show and woos Anushka off her feet.

All the way through the dance competition, she keeps falling in love with this new and improved Shah Rukh Khan, without once realising that the man she is dancing with is her real husband.

Movie Review:

Aditya Chopra’s third directorial venture after eight years, “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” starring Shah Rukh Khan, will remind audiences of the magic touch that has made “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” the longest running motion picture in Indian cinema history.

Indeed the jodi of Adi and SRK will once again be a treat for film audiences and the romantic confection of “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” looks set to capture hearts across the globe all over again. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is the story of an ‘odd’ couple played by Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma who find true love in the backdrop of a dance competition called “Dancing Jodi”.

Surinder Sahni (Shahrukh Khan), a man working for Punjab Power, who falls in love with Taani (Anushka Sharma) the flamboyant, fun-loving, vivacious girl for whom the whole world is her canvas and she paints her own life with the colours of rainbow all until unforeseen circumstances changes it all and brings them together.

They get married and lead a not-so happy life due to huge age difference between Surinder and Taani. Taani, meanwhile, wants to participate in a reality dance show called “Dancing Jodi,” which is the main backdrop of the movie. The dance contest showcases couples of all races, colours, backgrounds and sexual preferences. Taani wants to take part for the show, but she is not able to due to her husband’s lack of fashion statement.

Later on when Surinder finds out about his wife’s wish to participate in the reality dance show, he undergoes a major change. Taani keeps falling in love with her changed husband.

Rab ne bana di jodi is going to be a blockbuster as Shahrukh name attached with the movie is sufficient to make this a mega hit of the year.

Music Review

1. Romantic Song – ‘Haule Haule’ and ‘Tujh mein rab dikhta hai’ in romantic category.
2. Sad - The shreya ghoshal version of Tujhme rab dikhta hai
3. Fun – Dance pe chance by Sunidhi
4. Remix – Dance pe chance remix
5. Melody – Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte by Sonu Nigam.

If you are ready to forget and forgive Aditya Chopra for setting expectations through DDLJ and Mohabattein, the music is not that bad. But if you are looking for that charm, forget it!!

Haule Haule, as can be seen through the new found popularity of the RNBDJ promos, is the pick of the lot. Sukhwindar adds a lot of soul to the sing, the punjabi touches, and a lot of passion. It grows on you. And it is growing on me! Another Sukhi ace!

Tujhme Rab dikhta hai - its a good song, but it does not hit you that hard. Shreya Ghoshal version is better than Roop Kumar Rathod version.

Dance Pe Chance – Average joe.

Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte - is a spoof song. With lyrics made up of songs and hindi movie names of yester years.

Box-office collection

Hitting screens on December 12th 2008, the film has grossed Rs. 90Crores worldwide in its opening week. Yash Raj Films are so excited about the fact that the collections have overbeaten till-to-date blockbusters Om Shanthi Om, Singh is Kingh and all-time YRJ’s magnum opus Dhoom-2.

The total collections for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in India are around Rs. 42 crores net (i.e. gross collections of Rs. 70 crores). The total gross collections for all overseas markets are over $4 Million (i.e. around Rs. 20 crores).

In the Middle East, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has broken all previous records for first week collections, grossing just under $1.3 million. The previous highest grossing film in the Middle East was Dhoom:2, which grossed approximately $1.86 million across its entire run. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is on course to break this all-time record going into its second week.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has received a tremendous response from all audiences, witnessing mixed reviews and yet the film is set to continue achieving great numbers as it moves into its second week and beyond, and indeed has the potential to finish as one of the biggest blockbusters of all-time.
